Question about a saddle and stirrup leathers?

I am purchasing my friends used english saddle (so excited!) and have a question about finding the right stirrup leathers. How do you determine the type of stirrup leathers to buy? Or is there only 1 type? Sorry I'm so new to this "my saddle thing"! (Oh and I already bough stirrup irons.)
