Can water that is leaking near a electrical switch cause a fire?

I have a situation where there is water leaking from a outside source into my wall and dripping through the molding between my front and my storm door. I noticed on the inside water spots near my door frame which is near a light switch. The problem will be corrected soon becase the water is coming from ice in the gutter which will be corrected next week sometime. Will the water cause a fire if it is near a light switch? Can I still use the switch to light up the hall there is a water stain near the switch aroung the door frame on the inside wall. Also I noticed there is a light that goes on at night near where I think the water is coming in the light is outside is that a problem the light goes on automatically.
